Accelerated Degree Programs
Exceptional students who want to combine their undergraduate studies with graduate degrees can select from a number of accelerated and combined degree programs created for both entering freshmen and enrolled undergraduates.
Accelerated Programs for Entering Freshmen
These accelerated programs must be entered in the first year of enrollment at GW. Applicants must submit their intent as part of the GW application for undergraduate admission or on the Common Application Supplement.
These academic programs provide students with the security of knowing they have been admitted to graduate programs, allowing them greater flexibility in course selection during their undergraduate college careers. Requirements and deadlines for each program vary, so students are encouraged to review the application instructions carefully.
Six-Year BA/JD program -- This accelerated program allows exceptionally qualified students to complete a bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctorate in six rather than seven years.
Seven-Year BA/MD program -- A joint program between GW's Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Seven-Year B.A./M.D. program is designed for students of high ability and maturity who have decided to become physicians and want to accomplish that goal in a shorter amount of time than a traditional program of study.
Combined BA/MA programs -- GW's combined Bachelor's/ Master's programs are a unique opportunity for students who enter college confident of their career goals.
Accelerated Programs for Current Students
The George Washington University also offers a wide range of joint- and dual-degree programs that enable currently enrolled undergraduate students to apply for and complete a bachelor’s/master's degree in five years.
- Joint-Degree Programs awards both degrees simultaneously upon completion of both programs
- Dual-Degree Programs award each degree in a different term
Students typically apply for these combined programs during their junior year at GW and begin master's level coursework during their senior year. Courses are applied to both undergraduate and graduate degrees, saving students both time and money as they prepare for their chosen careers.
