International Students

GW Pre-College invites international students to apply to our programs. We issue I-20 documentation for F-1 visas for students applying to the College Intensive 6-week program only. Full time study of two courses is required for this program. Students interested in other programs often attend on B-2 visitors visas.

International Application Deadlines

6-Week credit program: April 1
All other programs: May 1

Early application is strongly advised due to processing requirements. Your application will be reviewed on a rolling, space-available basis when all components are received.

Eligibility

College Intensive (6-Week session only) program:

International students who are currently the equivalent of grade 11 in the U.S. (expected graduation 2013) may apply to our College Intensive 6-week session. If English is not your first language, a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score is required; IELTS is also accepted. The minimum required TOEFL score is 80 (Internet-based exam), 230 (computer-based exam), or 550 (paper-based exam). Full-time study (6 credit hours) is a requirement of this program for students requesting an F-1 visa. You will need to demonstrate financial ability to support full-time summer study in order for GW to issue the I-20 Certificate of Eligibility (required for an F-1 visa). Students are required to submit all application documents no later than April 1.

College Intensive (3-Week and 1-Week only), Summer Immersion, and Summer Arts programs:

International students who are currently enrolled in the equivalent of grades 9-11 may apply to our Summer Immersion programs. Students currently enrolled in the equivalent of grade 11 may apply to our College Intensive and Summer Studio: Art & Politics programs. Students are expected to have demonstrated proficiency in English. All credit-bearing programs require proof of TOEFL or IELTS. Although not required, we recommend applicants demonstrate ability to score 550 on the paper-based TOEFL for non-credit programs. Due to the short-term nature of these programs, admitted international students typically attend on a B-2 visitors visa to the United States. GW does not issue documentation to assist with an application for a visitors visa.
