Financial Aid
Semester In Washington students most commonly transfer their current financial aid packages to The George Washington University in order to fund the credit hours they elect to take. To do this, you and your financial aid office should initiate a consortium agreement with The George Washington University. You must be enrolled and receiving financial aid at your home institution during the time of the Semester In Washington program.
This arrangement allows students to use their home institution financial aid for other programs related to their area of study (so you must first get approval from your academic adviser to transfer the credits). Most institutions will enter into such an agreement for federal financial aid programs.
Our staff is available to talk directly with you and your financial aid officer. We will provide a student budget sheet for one semester and any other materials that your institution needs to calculate your financial aid package.
If you plan to initiate a consortium agreement, you should begin the process immediately. Please let our office know this is your intention so that we may assist you and prepare the paperwork to expedite this process.
Scholarships
The Semester In Washington program awards a number of partial scholarships. These are based on the merits of a candidate's application for admission and a second required essay. The scholarship application is due at the same time as the application for admission.

COLLEGIATE SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Semester In Washington Politics offers a Collegiate Scholars Program in conjunction with individual members of the U.S. Congress who nominate deserving students for SIW. Nomination to the Collegiate Scholars Program by a member of Congress satisfies the letter of recommendation requirement and waives the application fee. Acceptance of a CSP nominee carries with it a $500 tuition grant. If interested, you may wish to contact your U.S. Senator or Representative. We will be happy to provide him or her with the details of the Collegiate Scholars nomination process.
NATIVE AMERICAN POLITICAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Thanks to the generosity of the AT&T Foundation, Semester In Washington Politics is proud to offer the Native American Political Leadership Program (NAPLP). The competitive scholarship program covers the cost of tuition and fees, room, board and books for selected participants. Applicants must complete the SIW application and the scholarship application and provide ONE of the following: 1) a tribal enrollment number; 2) indication of enrollment in a Native American tribe OR 3) certification of Native American, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian ancestry. Deadline for application for this scholarship program is Nov. 1 for the spring semester.
