Admissions Criteria
Specific admission criteria for schools and programs are listed in The George Washington University Graduate Programs Bulletin.
As the number of spaces available for new graduate students is limited, meeting minimum standards does not guarantee admission.
To be considered for admission, applicants should have academic backgrounds of excellence and must hold, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or an international institution that is accredited by the country’s ministry of education or comparable governmental agency. Specific criteria and standards for admission vary by school and program.
Please note that graduate courses taken prior to admission, either at The George Washington University or elsewhere, may not be used in assessing admissibility to degree or graduate certificate programs.
Decisions
To check the status of your application, please visit the Graduate Application Center. Most applications are processed as soon as they are complete, and decisions are generally made within six weeks from the time the application and all supporting materials are received. However, some programs review applications collectively and announce decisions on a single, specific date.
Admission decisions are based on an evaluation of all components of your application, although not all are given equal weight in the decision-making process.
