A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI PROGRAMS

Greetings fellow alumni,

The entire campus is abuzz as Commencement weekend approaches. As we gear up to welcome the newest members of our alumni family, the Office of Alumni Programs is also preparing for some of our most important annual programs. On Saturday, May 21, the University community will gather to honor this year’s recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.

These remarkable individuals have excelled in their professional and philanthropic achievements, thereby bringing honor to their alma mater. Marlynne Brown, the GW Alumni Association’s vice president for awards, tells the whole story in GWAA Corner, below - be sure to take a look!

We’re also getting ready to celebrate the 50th reunion of the class of 1955 and the annual gathering of the alumni emeriti, which includes all alumni who graduated more than 50 years ago. All members of the class of 1955 and emeriti alumni are invited to participate in the Commencement exercises on Sunday, May 22, where they will be specially recognized by President Trachtenberg. Andy Rooney, one of GW’s 2005 honorary degree recipients, will address those gathered for Commencement. Andy Rooney is best known as the three-time Emmy Award winning commentator of 60 Minutes.

Following Commencement, the 50th reunion class and alumni emeriti will enjoy an elegant luncheon at the Madison Hotel, where they can mix, mingle, and reminisce about their time at GW.

Commencement is a memorable time for new graduates and alumni alike. We hope you will take this opportunity to remember some of your most enjoyable times at GW!

Sincerely,

Scott M. Mory, CCAS BA ’96, JD ’99
Executive Director of Alumni Programs
