GW’S FIRST BLACK ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ESTABLISHED
|
Recent alumnus L. Trenton Marsh, MA ’04, established the first George Washington Black Alumni Association (GWBAA) in the fall of 2004 with the assistance of the Multicultural Student Service Center. Trenton has named current GSEHD student Holly Jones, MA ’05 candidate, as vice president of communications and membership services. Since its inception last fall, the GWBAA leadership has acquired an impressive membership of close to 90 people.
GWBAA seeks to foster a sense of community among black alumni by creating a network of successful black graduates and supporting their academic, professional, social, and spiritual growth through networking events, speaker series, and professional development. The GWBAA encourages alumni to become active members of the GW community, support current GW students, develop Afro-centric alumni programming, and encourage a high standard of scholarship. Although the GWBAA is chartered as a black association, all alumni, regardless of race, who support the purpose of the organization are welcome.
