A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI PROGRAMS

Greetings fellow alumni—

GW is off to a great start in 2005 – students are in class, the basketball teams are on the road, and the Office of Alumni Programs has geared up for a great spring semester. We have worked diligently on your behalf over the past year to build new programs, and I would like to share some of them with you. REGIONAL PROGRAMMING OFFERS ALUMNI REWARDING EXPERIENCES
For the 60 percent of us who have moved away from Foggy Bottom and D.C. since our commencement, GW regional alumni chapters provide a fantastic opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with old ones, while enabling us to act as ambassadors for the University in our own communities. NEW VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADVANCEMENT APPOINTED
President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg has announced the selection of Laurel Price Jones as vice president for advancement. She will lead the University
s fundraising campaigns and oversee the diverse programming of advancement and alumni relations. Price Jones is thrilled to be at GW, stating "GW is hot; everything you read shows you its on the move.  The University has a terrific story – increasingly selective in terms of students and faculty, strong and active alumni, good leadership, and a mission.  This is what you look for as a fundraiser, and Im very pleased to be joining the GW team." NBC AND THE DONALD ARE LOOKING FOR YOU
Do you have what it takes to dominate the world of big business? NBC is on the lookout for the next Apprentice. And you don't have to wait around in an open casting call. GW is hosting an exclusive closed-casting session with the NBC producers of the hit show The Apprentice. Now is your chance for fame and the opportunity to work with the Donald. DEAN HARRY HARDING STEPS DOWN FROM POST
Dean Harry Harding of the Elliott School of International Affairs has announced that he will step down from his post on June 30, 2005. Dean Harding served for over ten years and has seen the School through many positive changes. READ FULL ARTICLE

REVAMPED TRAVEL PROGRAM OFFERS ENRICHMENT TO ALUMNI
Back by popular demand, the Alumni Travel Program is poised to offer diverse travel programs to graduates of GW. Six trips are planned for the upcoming year, with two types of travel offered. Alumni may opt for a luxury cruise-style vacation or for the new Campus Abroad trips – these programs offer a traditional tour experience combined with an educational component. READ FULL ARTICLE

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE 2005 WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE: THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY 
The Women’s Leadership Conference, held each spring on GW’s Mount Vernon Campus, brings together an inter-generational audience of professional women, many of whom are alumnae, and students to discuss the personal and professional challenges facing women in the 21st century. JOIN THE CAREER ADVISOR NETWORK!
The Office of Alumni Programs is pleased to introduce the Career Advisor Network, GW’s newest alumni mentoring program. The Career Advisor Network, an interactive online service of the Alumni Online Community, allows students and alumni to exchange career advice and network online! READ FULL ARTICLE

GW’S AVIATION SAFETY & SECURITY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
GW’s Aviation Safety & Security Certificate Program will hold its spring session from May 9 –19. The program offers college credit and includes five two-day courses and a case study and is open to alumni. Instructors are experienced professionals and professors in aviation. SEAS ALUMNI HELP IDENTIFY INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Over the next year, one of Dean Timothy Tong’s major goals at the School of Engineering and Applied Science is to enhance current career services support to our undergraduates and graduates so that every student who wants a summer internship may find one. READ FULL ARTICLE

CLASS OF 2005 ANNOUNCES SENIOR CLASS GIFT
The senior class is pleased to announce this year’s senior class gift: The Class of 2005 September 11th Scholarship Fund. Days after the class of 2005 arrived at GW, the attacks of September 11th occurred, affecting each student profoundly. The gift establishes a scholarship to be awarded annually to a rising senior who is in active military service, a veteran, a first responder, or to a son or daughter of one of these individuals. It will recognize and honor the courage of the men and women who served our country on September 11th, 2001, and who continue to serve.

CLASS OF 2003 BRICKS INSTALLED IN UNIVERSITY YARD
Beginning in 1990, each graduating student had a brick engraved with his or her name and degree placed on campus. The class of 2003’s bricks are now laid on the raised terrace in front of Lisner Hall, and we hope that you will take a look at your brick the next time you are on campus!
