GWAA CORNER

Throughout the year, the GW Alumni Association works closely with the University to design events for both GW alumni and current students…alumni in the making! This year we are sponsoring several innovative opportunities for students to connect with alumni and for alumni to get involved in the GW community!

Here is the upcoming line-up:

  • The Dinner with Alumni series is designed to promote stimulating conversation between an alumnus/a and a small group of students. The students benefit from the experiences of the host, and everyone involved gets to enjoy a great meal! Alumni/ae may host the dinner at their homes, on campus, or at area restaurants. GW trustee Mark Hughes hosted the first dinner, attended by six students, on Monday, October 18.
  • A wine and cheese reception for graduate students, hosted by GWAA in the spring, and several happy hour events throughout the year will offer opportunities for both relaxing and networking. Events will be posted at www.alumni.gwu.edu and in issues of the Colonial Cable. Please join us!
  • We are also establishing a mentoring program to connect students and alumni through our GW Alumni Online Community. Students will be paired with alumni with similar interests for conversation and advice. We need as many alumni as possible to volunteer to be mentors. You do NOT have to live in the DC area to mentor a student. Log on to the GW Alumni Online Community at www.alumni.gwu.edu, and click on ‘Student-Alumni Programs’ on the left side of your screen to learn more.

There are many ways to involve – or reacquaint – yourself with the GW community. These programs are designed to benefit both students and alumni who have experience and knowledge to share.

In addition, the GWAA’s Student-Alumni Initiatives Committee is open to all alumni. If you would like to get involved in some of these events or serve on the committee, please contact Nicole Speulda at speuldan@people-press.org or by phone at 202-293-3126.

If you would like to host a dinner or become involved in any of the other activities listed here, please contact Joe Bondi, director of alumni constituency initiatives, at joebondi@gwu.edu or by phone at 202-994-9524. Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,

Nicole Speulda, BA ’99, ESIA
Vice-President, Student-Alumni Initiatives Committee
