Greetings
fellow alumni!
I am proud to report to you that your alma mater continues to grow in
academic reputation and stature. You may have recently seen that GW's
School of Public Policy and Public Administration (SPPPA), Law School,
Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD), and graduate
programs in law, public affairs, health and business were ranked among
the top 25 in the latest "America's Best Graduate Schools" issue
of U.S. News & World Report. Specifically:
* SPPPA ranked 10th of 253 Master's programs in public affairs, moving
up nine spaces from 2001. Five specialty programs were ranked in the top
20, including health policy and management at 6th and public management
administration at 11th.
* The Law School ranked 20th of 177 accredited law schools, moving up
two spaces from last year. GW's intellectual law program was again named
the country's second best program. The environmental law program was ranked
seventh, and the international law program was ranked eighth.
* GSEHD ranked 24th of 189 education schools surveyed, and ninth best
among private institutions. The school's rehabilitation counseling program
was ranked 5th best in the country (based on 2003 rankings).
Other specialty programs also received high marks. GW's physician assistant
program is listed third in the nation (based on 2003 rankings). The speech-language
pathology programs ranked 39th in the country. Finally, the international
business program, in the School of Business and Public Management, ranked
20th in the nation. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our
schools on these accomplishments, and in taking pride in the continued
excellence of our academic programs.
The GW Alumni Association and Office of Alumni Programs are busy coordinating
summer activities and making plans for next year, and I encourage you
to watch these pages for updates. Over the summer we look forward to the
re-launch of the Alumni Online Community, with an enhanced online directory,
career and mentoring tools, class notes, regional chapter pages, and an
integrated events calendar. We think the Online Community will be the
perfect forum for maintaining the connection between GW and alumni.
We're planning a series of
educational programs over the summer, led off by a trip to Hyde Park guided
by Professor Allida Black, Director of the Eleanor Roosevelt Papers Project.
Details appear below. We are also planning panel discussions to preview
the upcoming Democratic and Republican conventions in Boston and NYC.
Details on these programs will follow soon.
Finally, it’s never too early to mark your calendars for Colonials
Weekend 2004, which will be held October 15th-17th. Highlights include
the 50th reunion luncheon, a young alumni party, Colonials Village, lectures,
open houses with the Deans, and an all-alumni celebration! We hope to
see you there.
Warm regards,
Sincerely,

Scott M. Mory
