Get Tagged With GW License Plates!

Show your Colonials pride on your ride in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia with our new GW license plate!

Plates are available through the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia DMVs to alumni whose vehicles are registered in each state.

Directions and required paperwork for each jurisdiction are outlined below. If you have questions please contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 1-800-ALUMNI-7 or alumni@gwu.edu.

District of Columbia

  1. Complete the “Member Information” and “Applicant’s Certification” portions of the Organizational Vehicle Tag Member Authorization Letter (PDF)

  2. Stop by Alumni House @ 1918 F Street, NW to complete the “Organization Authorization” portion of the letter, or you may mail your form to:

  3. Bring the following items to one of these DMV Locations: Georgetown Service Center, Penn Branch Service Center, or Southwest Service Center

Please save a copy of your completed form for your records.

If you plan to display the organizational tags on your vehicle, you must surrender both of your current vehicle tags and registration card and pay an additional member application tag fee. For more information visit the DC DMV.

Maryland

  1. Complete the Application/Certification for Organizational License Plates (PDF)

  2. Mail your Application Form and a check for $25 payable to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration to:
    GW Alumni House
    Attn: Alumni License Plate
    1918 F Street NW
    Washington, DC 20052

  3. We will complete the authorization portion of the application, and forward your completed application and payment to the MVA’s Specialty Tag Unit for processing.

  4. Or you may stop by Alumni House to get your approval signature and then apply in person at one of the MVA’s full service branch offices. Your application will then be forwarded to the Specialty Tag Unit for processing. For more information visit the MD MVA.

Virginia

  1. Order your plate online (in Step 1 plate type, select George Washington University under the “college” section).

To purchase license plates, you'll need your title number and vehicle identification number (VIN), which are on the vehicle registration card. Please be sure that you have properly titled and registered the vehicle in your name before purchasing your plate. For more information visit the VA DMV.
