William Chambliss received the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sociology of Law Section of the American Sociological Association.
Hiromi Ishizawa and Charis Kubrin were both awarded GW Selective Excellence Fellowships.
Charis Kubrin has given invited talks at UC Merced and the University of Colorado, Boulder. On September 19, she will give the talk "The Power of Place: Crime and Immigrant Communities" at the George Washington University Seminar in Urban Studies from 12:00-1:30 in the Marvin Center Room 402.
Charis Kubrin and Greg Squires received a George Washington University Facilitating Fund award for their project, “Does Fringe Banking Exacerbate Neighborhood Crime Rates? The Ecology of Alternative Financial Institutions and Social Disorganization in America.”

Steve Tuch received a George Washington University Facilitating Fund award for his project, “Stratification Ideologies in Postcommunist Nations: The Case of Poland.” Along with William V.D'Antonio, he also received an American Sociological Association/National Science Foundation Fund for the Advancement of the Discipline Award for the project, "Religion, Culture Wars, and Polarization in the U.S. Congress, 1971-2006." Co-Principal Investigator.
Students
Undergraduate student Andrea Israel, is the recipient of a Gamow Fellowship for her project, "The Current State of
Mind of Washington D.C.'s Homeless Community." Greg Squires will serve as her supervisor.
Former graduate student Erin Fishburn is starting a Ph.D. program in Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska.
Former g raduate student Jeffrey Lubbers published his piece, "D.C. Council Should Think Twice about Giving Pollin $50M" on June 7th in The Examiner. He recently began work as a survey research analyst at Knowledge Networks in San Francisco, CA.
Former graduate student Jacqueline Parent is starting a Ph.D. program in Sociology at the Univeristy of Arizona.
Former graduate student April Woolnough is starting a Ph.D. program in Crime, Law and Deviance at Penn State University.
