The Field Experience

The Quest program requires fieldwork conducted at school sites in conjunction with coursework. Students are required to conduct 60 hours of field observations prior to student teaching. Thirty hours of observation are conducted in TRED 206 early in the program, and the remaining 30 hours are conducted during content area methods courses (TRED 246-251). All secondary education students are also required to participate in a full-time, 15-week internship as the final licensure course and capstone of the program. Students often report that the internship is the most valuable part of their experience.

The semester-long, full-time internship allows students to link theory to practice, fostering a realistic view of the teaching profession. Working with public school teachers, students practice effective teaching skills under close supervision GW faculty.
