The Academic Integrity Office is currently recruiting new student members to the Academic Integrity Council for the 2012-2013 academic year. Each school of the university (except the Law School and the Medical School), has membership on the Council. The chief function of members is to occasionally serve on a hearing panel to adjudicate pending academic integrity charges. If you are interested in joining the Council and participating in the promotion of ethical behavior and academic integrity, please consider applying for membership.
The Internet: tool or temptation? Much has been in the media lately about a rise in cheating by using the Internet. Did you know that, while the Internet may be a great temptation and facilitate cheating, or can just as easily be used by faculty to detect incidences of cheating such as plagiarism? When in doubt about what constitutes plagiarism and how to properly cite Internet sources, check with your professor.
We are currently in our 17th year of operation of the Academic Integrity Office. Since the adoption of the Code, the caseload of charges has increased about 5-10% each year. This past year approximately 150 cases of alleged cheating were reported to this office.
We are available to speak to classes, clubs, faculty or other groups about the Code and the procedures associated with it. Contact ntegrity@gwu.edu.
