The focus of our group remains the understanding of the strong interaction in the nuclear medium. Our intention is to measure the elementary amplitudes for meson photoproduction and baryon excitation on the nucleon and see how they are modified in the nuclear medium, particularly in the light nuclei, where the nuclear density changes dramatically with very little change in nuclear size. In the past three years we have analyzed a wealth of data from our past experiments with real tagged photons at Jefferson Lab and have obtained approval for new experiments to more effectively use the high energy and polarization available at JLab. This core program is a continuing effort. We also propose substantial extensions of our research program to exploit the Crystal Ball detector being installed at the medium-energy photon-beam facility at MAMI and the new, intense, polarized, lower-energy photon-beam facility at HIGS.
