Professor Laura Gilliam joined the Department of Music faculty as instructor of recorder in 1993. She is a free-lance performer in this area on both recorder and flutes (Renaissance and Baroque) and is a member of Katzenpfote (an early music ensemble) and Rossignol (recorder and harpsichord duo). Prof. Gilliam is also on the faculty of the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. and has taught recorder at The George Mason University for Orff Certification courses. Prof. Gilliam was a member of the Charlotte and Greensboro Symphonies, with which she made two solo appearances. Prof. Gilliam has continued her studies on both recorder and flute at Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, Amherst Early Music, and various American Recorder Society workshops and master classes.
