When I started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life I focused
on my love of history and museums. After some searching I found the Museum
Studies program at GW and it seemed perfect. Washington, D.C. is the best
place in the country to experience history and contains a vast array of museums.
The Museum Studies program was the best way for me to bring my
two interests together and develop them into a career.

I chose to attend GW because it has one of the best Museum Studies programs in the country.
It is nationally recognized and highly recommended within the museum field.
Plus, it is in the heart of Washington, D.C., where most of the major museums in the country are located.

Before coming to GW I was already living in Washington, D.C. for my job
at a small museum association, and I was weighing my options for taking
my next step into the museum field--pursuing an advanced academic degree,
finding a job with only a B.A. and then working my way up, or entering
a Museum Studies program. I decided to enter GW because I knew I wanted
to stay in D.C. and knew that in such a competitive museum town, having
an advanced degree was about the only way I had a shot at getting a museum
job and the GW program was close to my office and offered several evening/late-afternoon classes that could
be incorporated into my full-time work schedule.
I like the mix of perspectives that the faculty (full time and adjunct)
brings to the program--art, history, and science museums are all represented.
It's nice to think of the museum field cohesively, because so many strategies
overlap for these different types of museums, and the faculty encourages this perspective.
