GW JOINS DC MAYOR ANTHONY WILLIAMS IN LAUNCHING NEIGHBORHOOD
ACTION INITIATIVE
WASHINGTON --The Center for Excellence in Municipal
Management, part of The George Washington University's School of Business and
Public Management, is a new partner in a citywide Neighborhood Action Initiative
unveiled this month by Mayor Anthony Williams. Neighborhood Action is designed
to mobilize community resources to provide better government services, improve
communications among all sectors of the city and create a partnership among
government, businesses, civic organizations and citizens to increase the quality
of life in the District.
Mayor Williams will host a 6:30 p.m. reception on Thursday November 18,
followed by a Citizens' Summit on Saturday, November 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. at the Washington Convention Center. During the
Summit, more than 1,000 citizens from throughout the city will participate in
working sessions with the Mayor and the City Council to set priorities for the
city and its neighborhoods and further develop a positive vision for the
District.
The Center for Excellence in Municipal Management brings
to Neighborhood Action a unique and successful partnership among professionals in
the academic, business and civic communities. The Center is made possible through
the generous support of its partners, including Giant Food, Inc.; the Fannie
Mae Foundation; the Cafritz Foundation and DC Agenda. The Center's goal is to
help mobilize community resources to improve DC neighborhoods--one block, one street and one
community at a time.
