The George Washington University will host a convocation honoring Anders Fogh Rasmussen, prime minister of Denmark. Prime Minister Rasmussen will be conferred the honorary degree “Doctor of Public Service” at the ceremony. University officials, including President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Charles T. Manatt, will be present at the convocation, and the Coolidge Quartet, whose Hasse Borup is originally from Denmark, will perform. Prime Minister Rasmussen will deliver his first major policy speech in America at the convocation. |

Background:
Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen was born in 1953 in Ginnerup, Denmark. While studying languages and social studies at the Viborg Cathedral School from 1970-72, he was founder and chairman of the Young Liberals. He went on to study at the University of Aarhus, earning his Master’s Degree in Economics in 1978. That same year the Prime Minister served as the consultant with the Danish Federation of Crafts and Small Industries, and became at age 25 the youngest deputy in the Danish Parliament. From there the list of political accomplishments and earned titles is long and distinguished. Prime Minister Rasmussen is also a prolific writer, with works including “Showdown with the Tax System,” “Welfare Under Threat,” “Denmark in the Year 2000,” and “Love of Work and Welfare – an Impossible Cocktail?”.
Located four blocks from the White House, The George Washington University was created by an Act of Congress in 1821. Today, GW is the largest institution of higher education in the nation’s capital. The University offers comprehensive programs of undergraduate and graduate liberal arts study as well as degree programs in medicine, law, engineering, education, business/public management, and international affairs. Each year, GW enrolls a diverse population of 20,000 undergraduates, graduate, and professional students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 120 countries.
