BACKGROUND:
Daniel Yergin is a highly respected authority on international
politics, economics, and energy. He
is co-founder and chairman of Cambridge Energy Research Associates. Yergin is both a Pulitzer Prize winner
and recipient of the United States Energy Award for “lifelong achievements in
energy and the promotion of international understanding.” His book, “The
Commanding Heights: The Battle Between Government and the Marketplace that is
Reshaping the Modern World,” co-authored with Dr. Joseph A. Stanislaw, received
wide attention for its analysis and narrative of how the world is changing its
mind about markets. He is completing work on turning it into a six-hour PBS
series on globalization, which will be broadcast in April.
Yergin
received the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for his work, “The Prize: The
Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power.”
Yergin is a member of the board of the United States Energy Association
and the National Petroleum Council and serves on the NPC co-chairs’ coordinating
committee. He is also a member of the U.S. Secretary of
Energy’s Advisory Board and chaired the U.S. Department of Energy’s Task Force
on Strategic Energy Research and Development.
This lecture series is made possible through the generous
support of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc.
