The National Security Archive located at GW was mentioned by several news sources including The Grand Rapids Press ( Mich.), the Associated Press, and CNN about a February 2003 declassified document warning of post-war planning gaps (8/18).

Research conducted by GWMedical Center was cited in an Associated Press story about insurance for drunken drivers (8/17). Research conducted at GW on links between arts and health was mentioned by the Irish News (8/16). Research on drug therapy in Muscular Dystrophy at the GW medical center was mentioned by several scientific journals including Health & Medicine Week (8/22), Science Letter (8/23), and Biotech Week(8/24). GW Medical Center research on melanoma received mention from several scientific journals, including Health & Medicine Week (8/22), Science Letter (8/23), and Life Science Weekly (8/23). The GW Medical Center’s Ensuring Solutions to Alcohol Problems Research Center was mentioned by a Business Insurance article on receiving compensation for injuring oneself while intoxicated (8/29). Finally, Fed News mentioned that GW’s School of Public Health will participate with the District of Columbia on concurrently treating drug addicts with mental illness (8/24).

The GW Law School participated in a survey discussed by several news sources including The National Law Journal (8/22), The Legal Intelligencer, and the Miami Daily Business Review (8/25) about admission of minorities and women. GW was highlighted as having the highest number of applicants.

GW’s tuition break for children of employees was highlighted by The Grand Rapids Press as a way to cut college costs (8/22).

GW was mentioned by The Australian for attempting to design new ways to improve quality of life for the hearing-impaired (8/30).

GW was noted by Cox News Service as one of the costliest schools in the nation (8/22).

Science magazine mentioned GW’s professional Master’s program in Middle School Mathematics (8/26)

Gordon Adams, professor of the practice of international affairs, was quoted by The Christian Science Monitor about the cost of the war in Iraq (8/29).

Martin Adelman, T. and J. Pedas Family Professor of Intellectual Property & Technology Law, was quoted by The Star-Ledger ( Newark) about intellectual property and patents (8/18). He also was quoted by the Associated Press about inventor Jerome Lemelson (8/20).

John Banzhaf, professor of law, was quoted in The Washington Times about soda sales in schools (8/18). He also was mentioned by the Economist Intelligence Unit ( UK) regarding lawsuits against industries that promote consumption of fatty foods (8/26), and by The Economist on the same topic (8/27).

Jeffrey Blomster , professor of anthropology, was noted by The Columbus Dispatch for his discovery of ancient Olmec pottery (8/23).

Nathan Brown , professor of political science and international affairs, was interviewed about the Iraqi constitution for an article in Newsday (8/23) and Bloomberg (8/23).

Eric Cline , associate professor of classics, received mention in Haaretz on his excavations at Kabri (8/17).

Charles Craver , Freda H. Alverson Professor of Law, was quoted by The Washington Post about labor union strikes and Northwest airlines (8/19, 8/23). He also was quoted by The Seattle Times on the issue (8/24).

Yang Daqing , professor of history and international affairs, was quoted by the Associated Press about Japanese prison camps in China (8/17).

Hope M. Harrison, associate professor of history and international affairs and director of the Institute of European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies, appeared in the History Channel show “Man, Moment, Machine” discussing the Gary Powers U-2 spy plane incident (8/30).

Stephen Hess, distinguished research professor of media and public affairs, was quoted by the Christian Science Monitor on President Bush’s veto power in his second term (8/16). He also was quoted by The San Diego Union-Tribune about presidential vacations (8/19). Hess was quoted by The Salt Lake Tribune about George Bush’s image in light of recent approval polls (8/23). He also was quoted by the Huston Chronicle about Tom DeLay’s campaigning in his home constituency (8/26). Finally, Hess was quoted by The Boston Globe about charitable giving among politicians (8/28).

William Kovacic, E.K. Gubin Professor of Government Contracts Law, was interviewed by the Thai News Service about Association of Southeast Asian Nations members and competition law (8/19).

Steven Livingston, associate professor of media and public affairs and international affairs, was quoted by Knight Ridder about media coverage on the war in Iraq (8/21).

John Logsdon, director of Space Policy Institute, was quoted by The New York Times on the delay of the NASA shuttle launch (8/19).

Ira Lupu, F. Elwood and Eleanor Davis Professor of Law, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times about faith-based initiatives (8/29). He was quoted by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about faith-based charity legal decisions (8/31).

Jarol Manheim, professor of media and public affairs and of political science, was quoted by The Boston Globe about unionization in Boston hospitals (8/30).

Thomas Morgan, Oppenheim Professor of Antitrust and Trade Regulation Law, was discussed by several media outlets, including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, (8/25) and The Wall Street Journal about a letter Morgan wrote in favor of Judge Roberts (8/26).

Susan Phillips, dean of the School of Business, was mentioned in the Dow Jones Commodity Service as a possible replacement for Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, should he retire (8/20).

Richard Pierce, Lyle T. Alverson Professor of Law, was quoted by The National Law Journal about new safety regulations and lawsuits (8/29).

Jeffrey Rosen, professor of law, wrote an article for The New York Times Magazine about Judge Roberts and his future on the Supreme Court (8/28).

Brian Richmond, professor of anthropology, was quoted by the Associated Press about the impact of the discovery of a 1.8 million year old human ancestor (8/22).

Howard Sachar, professor of history and international affairs, was discussed by The Economist, in regards to his new book on Jewish History (8/20). His book also was reviewed by The Boston Globe, The Washington Post (8/21), and The New York Times (8/28).

David Shambaugh, professor of political science and international affairs, wrote an article for Financial Times about Sino-American trade relations (8/29).

Roger Scheschter, William Thomas Fryer Research Professor of Law, was quoted by The Washington Times about the legal stance for digital re-creation (8/26).

Joshua Schwartz, professor of law, was quoted by The Baltimore Sunabout why the Department of Defense decided not to renew a contract in Baltimore (8/20).

Bruce Siegel, research professor of health policy, commented for The Virginian Pilot & Ledger Star on the persistence of a racial gap in medical treatment (8/18). 

Jonathan Siegel, professor of law, was quoted in a Columbia Daily Tribune story on issues of state sovereign immunity (8/31).

Steven Smith , professor of economics and international affairs , had his book, Ending Global Poverty, reviewed in the September/October edition of Foreign Affairs.

James Starrs, professor of law and of forensic sciences, received mention in a Times-Tribune ( Penn.) story about a re-autopsy of an inmate allegedly murdered in a Pennsylvania county prison that led to a civil rights trial (8/31).  

Jonathan Turley, J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Professor of Public Service Law, was mentioned by The Washington Times in a commentary on his op-ed piece about Judge Roberts (8/18). Turley also was quoted by the St. Petersburg Times about retirement ages of judges (8/21). He was noted by Legal Times for taking on the case of Ali Al-Timimi, a Virginia cleric accused of inciting followers to wage war against the United States (8/22). Finally, Turley wrote an article for USA Today about Judge Roberts (8/31).

Arthur Wilmarth, professor of law, was quoted by American Banker about whether or not a state attorney general can take action against a national bank. He also was quoted by Investment News (8/22) and by American Banker (8/23) on the state’s role in anti-fraud actions in financial services.
