Health Insurance
Although health insurance coverage is not mandatory at GW, the Student Health Service and the University strongly encourage all students to have health insurance.
If you have coverage on your own or as a dependent under your parent's policy, spouse's policy or as an employee, find out what kind of a plan you have (HMO, PPO, Indemnity, Service, etc.). You will also need to know what the policy covers and does not cover, how to file a claim, and what to do in case of an emergency. In addition, you should be aware of possible lack of appropriate coverage due to age, geographic location, in-network vs. out-of-network providers, and prior authorization requirements.
Be sure you have a copy of your insurance card when you come to GW and carry it with you whenever you seek medical care. You will also want to arrange to bring copies of medical records and prescriptions for any ongoing medical conditions.
I Don't Have Health Insurance
If you need health insurance, the University offers an excellent, comprehensive student health insurance program developed especially for GW students. For more information about the GW Student Health Insurance Plan, you can contact:

Coverage also fulfills requirements for international students.
Immunization Requirements
ALL students under the age of 26, regardless of program of study, part-time
or full-time, degree or non-degree status, must comply with the immunization
requirement as set forth by the Law of the District of Columbia. Your
student account will incur a REGISTRATION HOLD if complete immunization
records are not submitted to the Student Health Service by the registration
period for your second semester at GW.
For a complete listing of immunization requirements and to download a copy of the immunization registration form, please visit the
Student Health Service web site at http://gwired.gwu.edu/shs.
