GW Faculty Senate Activity

April 12 Faculty Senate Meeting

The Senate met on April 12, convening at 2:05pm and adjourning to a brief executive session at 3:59pm.

In her report, President Granberg (link forthcoming) provided updates on meetings and events both on campus and around the country as well as university business, initiatives, and activities.

Provost Bracey (PDF) provided some updates on the strategic framework development process, the Diversity Program Review report, the GW Academic Leadership Academy, Commencement, the upcoming Academic Honors and Faculty Honors ceremonies, Interfaith Week, and the celebration of the GW Alliance for a Sustainable Future.

FSEC Chair Ilana Feldman delivered the Executive Committee report (PDF), reporting on recent FSEC activities and discussions. Following Board of Trustees approval of recent amendments to the Faculty Organization Plan, an updated version of that document (PDF) has been posted to the Senate website.

The Senate passed Resolution 24/6 (PDF) (To Implement a Faculty Consultative Committee in Presidential Searches).

Professor Guillermo Orti presented a report from the Professional Ethics & Academic Freedom (PEAF) committee on the Role and Composition of the Executive Committee with Recommendations (PDF).  PEAF also filed a brief report on the academic freedom portal (PDF), and annual reports from the Fiscal Planning & Budget (PDF) and Physical Facilities & Campus Safety (PDF) committees.

The next regularly scheduled Faculty Senate Executive Committee meeting will be held on April 26. The next regularly scheduled Faculty Senate meeting, the first of the 2024-2025 Senate session, will be held on May 10. The draft minutes of the April 12 Senate meeting will be posted as soon as possible.

About the Faculty Senate

The GW Faculty Senate is the faculty governance body of the George Washington University. Senators are elected to two-year terms by their home schools, and the Senate annually elects an Executive Committee that sets agendas, reviews proposed resolutions, and guides the work of the Senate. The Senate is normally in session from September through May, although the Executive Committee works year-round on faculty and administrative matters.
