Other Programs
(programs unaffiliated with GW)
In addition to the Elliott School and GW offerings, graduate students research and identify study abroad options on their own. Students may be eligible to transfer a maximum of 6 credits into the MA program. Popular study abroad search engines include StudyAbroad.com and IIEPassport.org.
Students are required to submit a petition to determine how the credits will be transferred. Consult your program director or faculty major field advisor to determine how the courses fit into your Plan of Study. In order to be eligible to earn transfer credit for unaffiliated programs, students should confirm that:
- The program is offered by an accredited academic institution.
- The program is a graduate or M.A. level course.
The following list gives examples of unaffiliated programs that past Elliott School graduate students have attended:
- Summer Institute on Peacebuilding & Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
- Summer abroad programs offered by George
Mason University, American
University, Georgetown
University, etc.
Please note: summer courses offered by these institutions
are not part of the Washington Metropolitan Area Consortium of Universities
and therefore students must apply directly, and pay directly to the host
institution. Students earn transfer credits for successful completion of
any coursework.
- Jean Monnet International Summer Seminars: “Integrating Europe in a Changing World”, Florence, Rome and Bozen, Italy.
- CERIUM Summer Schools,
Université de Montréal
Course offerings for Summer 2008 include:
Enrolled students also receive a biweekly listserv providing updated information and new course announcements.
If you would like to suggest a program to be added to this list, please email Caroline Donavan White, Director for International Programs and Education.
