Established in 1955, the School of International Studies (SIS) is the oldest school of Jawaharlal Nehru University. SIS quickly established itself as one of the leading institutions in the country and was the first institution in India to develop area studies programs. The teaching and research at the School is carried out in a variety of research centers covering all geographical regions of the world as well as functional facets of international studies, including diplomacy, law, economics, politics, organizations, and disarmament. SIS offers a variety of M.Phil and Ph.D. programs as well as two M.A. programs in International Studies and in World Economics.
Curriculum:
JNU/SIS offers a wide variety of courses through its seven centeres in American and West European studies; diplomacy, international law, and economics; East Asian studies, international politics, organization, and disarmament; Russian, Central Asian & East European studies; South, Central, and Southeast Asian and Southwest Pacific studies; West Asian and African studies. Transfer of Credit
Students must earn the equivalent of a B grade or higher in a given course to be eligible for transfer credit. Students may transfer up to 10 GW credits from the partner into the Elliott School M.A. programs. For more details on transfer credit, visit Receiving Credit.
Academic Calendar:
Monsoon Semester: July to December
Winter Semester: January to May
Classes are held during the day and in the evening.
Language of Instruction:
Courses are taught in English.
Internships:
For this program the Faculty does not arrange internships for students; however, should a student arrange their own internships.
Housing
JNU has some limited campus housing in hostels available for visiting students.
Tuition and fees:
Elliott School graduate tuition and fees are payable directly to GW, and are based upon 10 credit hours.

Students are responsible for obtaining appropriate student visas for study in India. The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs compiles information on travel abroad, public announcements, and warnings. The Elliott School reviews all applications for study at International Exchange Partners. To apply, students must complete:

Both applications and all supplementary materials are due to the Elliott School by March 15 for fall enrollment abroad and October 15 for spring enrollment abroad. Once the application has been reviewed and endorsed by the Elliott School review committee, the Elliott School will forward the application materials to the partner for final decision.
