“The George Washington University In and Of The District of Columbia”

From its birth through its many and lengthy growing pains to its maturity as a national research university, GW has both survived and thrived because of its “fortunate location” in Washington. It is also and no less true that GW has in turn endowed the city — which has been patient with the school through infancy, adolescence, and maturity — with service and instruction, prosperity, and affection.

Thus, “GW In and Of DC” simply mixes examples and stories, facts and figures, in hopes of being interesting, enlightening, and amusing — and finally to demonstrate a fundamental truth:

It is impossible to imagine GW without the city of Washington, and impossible to imagine the city of Washington without GW.
