CLASS NOTES
Kevin Baron, CCAS MA '04, won a 2009 George Polk Award for Journalism, in the category of military reporting. Baron covers the Pentagon and national security for the Washington bureau of Stars and Stripes, the independent newspaper for the military. He shared the award with two other Stripes reporters for their work revealing that the military paid a controversial firm to screen journalists seeking embeds with troops to cover the war in Afghanistan. After a week of reporting, the military cancelled the contract.
Emily Barson, CCAS BA '03, and Matthew Thornton, were married May 30 in Philadelphia. Read the couple's wedding announcement in The New York Times.
Roslyn M. Brock, GWSB MS '89, was selected as the new chairman of the National Board of Directors for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in February. Brock is also a vice president of the Bon Secours Health System in Marriottsville, Md. She is the chief spokeswoman for Bon Secours on government relations, advocacy and public policy. Prior to working at Bon Secours, she worked 10 years in health programs at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Mich.
