YOUNG ALUMNI NETWORK SHOWCASES BENEFITS FOR RECENT GRADS
Recent graduates have more opportunities to take advantage of their alumni status than ever before. The Young Alumni Network, started in 2007, offers social, networking, and educational events and benefits to graduates from the past 10 years.
"The Young Alumni Network was established as a network for recent graduates to capitalize on and continue to be engaged with GW," said Andrew Hill, assistant director of Student and Alumni Programs. "That can be as simple as attending events or expanding on their professional development."
Just about six years ago, Alison Devenny, ESIA BA '07,Esther Agbaje, CCAS BA '07, and Siobhan Perkins,ESIA BA '07, were freshmen next-door neighbors having picnics on the Mount Vernon quad. Now, they are scattered across the globe pursuing different international business, development, and service activities.
The University of Vermont College of Medicine has announced that Dr. Ira Bernstein, SMHS GME '87, has been named senior associate dean for Research. Bernstein, a professor at UVM of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, will take the new position July 1.
Stephen G. Burns, LAW JD '78, has been named the new general counsel of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission after serving as deputy general counsel since 1998. The Office of the General Counsel provides legal advice to the NRC, which specializes in dealing with nuclear safety and oversight of the nation's nuclear arsenal. Burns is a former editor of The George Washington Law Review.
