GW has gone green! Make your annual gift online now and you'll receive fewer fundraising mailings from the GW Annual Fund this year ... and that might just save a tree or two.
GW READIES FOR INAUGURATION
As the country gears up for the inauguration of Barack Obama, GW has a front row seat to the historic event. Just four blocks from the White House, the university is involved in inauguration activities in many ways.
F. Peter Simmons, ATT '49-'51, was always an enterprising student. When The Hatchet wasn't bringing in enough advertising revenue, Simmons, the newspaper's business manager at the time, asked all of the sororities on campus to pick out their prettiest member. He then went to some of the downtown department stores and offered to organize a fashion show on campus with the store's merchandize, on the condition that they purchase advertising space.
"I think clothing sales went way up in downtown Washington," he said.
His most enterprising endeavor, however, was spearheading the creation of GW's own float in the 1949 Inaugural parade. It was the first and only time – before this year – that GW had a float in the parade. (Learn more about the float students are building for the 2009 Inaugural parade here).
Alison Marie Devenny, ESIA BA '07, has been accepted into the exchange programs at The Escuela Superior de Administracion y Direccion de Empresas in Barcelona Spain. ESADE is one of the top MBA programs in the world. There she hopes to develop her management skills to compliment her experience in finance at Deutsche Bank.
