GW ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING AND RECEPTIONAll GW alumni are invited to attend the annual meeting of the George Washington Alumni Association on Wednesday, June 11, at 1957 E Street NW in the City View Room (7th floor). Check-in will be from 5:30–6 p.m. The meeting will begin promptly at 6 p.m. and will be approximately one hour in length.

BOOK SIGNING WITH GW PROFESSOR JIM GOLDGEIERElliott School Professor Jim Goldgeier will be signing his new book 11/9 to 9/11: America Between the Wars at the Ivy Bookshop. Along with fellow foreign policy analyst Derek Chollet, Goldgeier follows how the years between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Twin Towers shaped the events, arguments, and politics of the world we live in today. This is the first book that examines these years as a distinct and decisive era in American history.

At the Elliott School, Professor Goldgeier teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in U.S. foreign policy and theories of international relations. He is the author of Leadership Style and Soviet Foreign Policy (John Hopkins, 1994), which received the Edgar Furniss book award in national and international security, and Not Whether But When: The U.S. Decision to Enlarge NATO (Brookings, 1999). The book signing is free and open to all alumni.

recognized afro-pop singer-songwriter who successfully blends traditional
West African music styles with Arabic, French, and Spanish traditions.
His meaningful influence reaches western pop and rock including Pink Floyd
and many others. The instrumentation that accompanies his singing combines
the guitar, organ, and saxophone with traditional African instruments such
as the kora, balafon, and djembe.

GILBERTO GIL & THE BROAD BANDGilberto Gil has developed one of the most relevant and renown careers as a
singer, composer, and guitar-player in both world and pop music. In a career
that has spanned four decades, with over 30 albums released, Gil has six
gold records, four platinum singles, and five million records sold.
The Tropicalist genre he introduced, alongside Caetano Veloso, has secured
his fame internationally as well as at home in Brazil. His political and
environmental activism gained prominence alongside his musical career and
reached a new height in 2002 when he was appointed Minister of Culture for
Brazil.

The Elite Team Camp is open to both teams and individuals wishing to enhance their skills on the soccer pitch. The camp is broken into several different academies, which cater to all aspects of development for today’s youth soccer player. The academies are led by GW staff and other coaches who presently work with collegiate, professional, and international level athletes and have a strong background.

Screening of critically-acclaimed film, "The Matador," on Saturday afternoon, followed by a Q&A with Nina Seavey, producer/co-director of the film and founder/director of The Documentary Center at GW. The film is an epic tale of David Fandila's three-year quest to become the world's top-ranked bullfighter. His story recounts the love of a son for his family, of audiences for their heroes, of people for their cultural traditions, and of a bullfighter for the majestic beast he must kill to create his art.

An election-themed brunch, featuring GW alumnus Chuck Todd, NBC News' political director, and NBC News' on-air political analyst for "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams," "Today," "Meet the Press with Tim Russert" and MSNBC, including "Hardball with Chris Matthews."
