COMMENCEMENT 2008

Commencement

A little bit of rain didn’t damper the enthusiasm of the nearly 25,000 graduates, family, and friends gathered on the National Mall for GW’s Commencement on Sunday, May 18.

Commencement culminated a weekend full of events, including individual school celebrations, the annual Monumental Celebration for friends and family at Union Station, a legacy family reception, and an Interfaith Baccalaureate service.

Class Notes

Richard D. Albright, CCAS MS ’80, has published a book, Cleanup of Chemical and Explosive Munitions, which explains how to clean up military ranges and dump sites. It includes lists of chemical agent and explosive contaminants, previously unknown ranges and ocean dumpsites. The book is written for new environmentalists and property owners confronting munitions issues for the first time as well as experienced military munitions experts that lack the environmental background.
Mitchell E. Blaser, GWSB BBA ’73, has been promoted to senior vice president and chief operating officer of Ironshore Inc. Blaser has been with Ironshore since the company’s first day. CEO Robert Deutsch said he has been someone who is “a terrific partner and constantly thinking about Ironshore. His involvement includes all facets of our business. I can’t imagine, nor do I want to, what Ironshore would be like without his tenacity and dedication.” Blaser serves as the Board Chair for the GWSB Dean's Board of Advisors.
