Junior Colonials is a cheer and dance clinic for children ages 3-12 run by the GW Spirit Program. HOW DO I BECOME A NATIONAL SECURITY POLICY ADVISER?Brendan Shields, CCAS BA ’98, will discuss his national security experiences and background. Currently, he is the Director for Response Policy at the White House Homeland Security Council. Prior, Mr. Shields served at the Departments of Homeland Security and State where he focused on domestic and international security issues. He began his career working on Capitol Hill while attending GW.

HOW DO I BECOME A NETWORK TV PRODUCER?Join Mary Ann Zoellner, CCAS BA ’91, as she shares her experiences working as a producer for the number one rated morning show, NBC's Today. While in college she worked for CNN’s Larry King Live and then moved to New York for a job at MSNBC. She is currently at work on her first book called, “Today's Moms.”

HOW DO I BECOME A CHIEF COUNSEL OF THE FDA?Spend an evening with Sheldon Bradshaw, LAW JD ’96, former Chief Counsel of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As Chief Counsel, Sheldon was responsible for providing legal advice on issues related to drugs, medical devices, food, animal feed and drugs, cosmetics, dietary supplements, and other products regulated under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and the Public Health Service Act.

SHOUT SISTER SHOUT — LECTURE & RECEPTION WITH PROFESSOR GAYLE WALD
Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1915-73) was gospel's first national star, its original crossover artist, and its most celebrated singer-guitarist. A consummate showman, in 1951, she wowed more than 20,000 paying guests at an outdoor wedding concert at Griffith Stadium (where the Washington Senators played). Today she lies in an unmarked Philadelphia grave and is largely forgotten. Why?
Come hear Professor Gayle Wald, in a multimedia presentation based on her New York Times-reviewed book Shout, Sister, Shout!: The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Gayle Wald is professor of English at GW, teaching courses on African American literature, popular music, and U.S. culture. Professor Wald is also the author of Crossing the Line: Racial Passing in 20th -Century U.S. Literature and Culture (Duke University Press, 2000), as well as numerous essays on music, culture, and literature. She received her Ph.D. in English from Princeton University.
