LUNCH AND LECTURE FOR GW ALUMNI IN SEATTLE
Join fellow alumni for lunch and a lecture with GW professor Nathan Brown. In his lecture titled Do Islamists and Democracy Mix?, Professor Brown will discuss why Islamist groups do so well in elections in the Arab world, what effect their participation has on their group and what effect it has on the political system as a whole.

Brown is currently professor of political science and international affairs, and director of the Institute for Middle East Studies and Middle East Studies Program in GW’s Elliot School of International Affairs. He received a BA in political science from the University of Chicago and an MA and PhD in politics and Near Eastern studies from Princeton University. His dissertation received the Malcolm Kerr award from the Middle East Studies Association in 1987. Brown is the recipient of Fulbright grants to study in Egypt and the Gulf and teach in Israel. He recently served two years as senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
