SHAKESPEARE THEATRE’S TAMING OF THE SHREWOne of Shakespeare’s earliest and most popular comedies, The Taming of the Shrew bursts with disguise, deception, and devilment. Shakespeare gives us the improbable courtship of the fiery-tongued Katherine by the arrogant Petruchio, and unlike Shakespeare’s other romantic comedies, this play does not stop with the wedding! Director Rebecca Bayla Taichman makes her Shakespeare Theatre Company debut with this comedy.

Join GW alumni for a pre-show reception and a night at the theatre. The reception will include Akiva Fox, literary associate of the Shakespeare Theatre Company. He writes and edits the theatre’s publications, serves as dramaturge for all main stage productions, and reads classic plays for future production. He received his BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania, and his MFA in dramaturgy from the A.R.T. Institute at Harvard. Fox will discuss Taming of the Shrew and GW’s unique relationship with the Shakespeare Theatre.
The cost is $35 per person and includes your show ticket and hors d'oeuvres at the pre-show reception. Tickets will be distributed at the reception until 30 minutes before the show, after which they will be available at Shakespeare Theatre’s will call. GW HONORS RICHARD SCOTT WITH THE INAUGURAL AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED ENTREPRENEURIAL ACHIEVEMENTThe GW Community will gather on October 24th to Honor Richard L. Scott, Founder, Columbia Hospital Corporation, and President and CEO of Richard L. Scott Investments with the inaugural Award for Distinguished Entrepreneurial Achievement. Mr. Scott founded Columbia Hospital Corporation (later renamed HCA, Inc.) in 1987 and began a decade-long effort to build an integrated health system designed to meet the needs of the healthcare consumer. When he left his role as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1997, Columbia/HCA had become the world's largest healthcare company with more than 340 hospitals, 130 surgery centers and 550 home health locations in 38 states and three foreign countries. Since 1997, Mr. Scott has been Chief Executive Officer of Richard L. Scott Investments, LLC, focusing on public and private investments in strong cash flow generating companies.
The celebration will also include an address from President Steven Knapp on his vision of entrepreneurship and research at GW, an address from Mr. Scott, and two panels of GW Entrepreneurs sharing their experiences.

Hebert received a BA in political science from American University in 1999 and a MA in media and public affairs from GW in 2004. She currently serves as a vice president with Hart Research, conducting qualitative and quantitative research projects for nonprofit organizations, corporations, political candidates, media organizations, and educational institutions. Hebert will be joined by her husband, Mike Ward, legislative director to U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI).
