More than 1,000 return to campus for Reunion Weekend

More than 1,000 people came back to Foggy Bottom for Alumni Reunion Weekend, which took place September 28-30, 2007. They enjoyed a wide range of activities including a Latin-themed kick-off party, a concert by renowned jazz guitarist John McLaughlin, a tour of Thurston Hall, brunch with University President Knapp, faculty lectures, individual class reunions, and a Yankees-Orioles game.

Alumni Profiles

Mike O’Connor, BBA ’02 John Colby, BA ’71, did not take one single music class while at GW, but millions have heard his songs. With tunes like ESPN’s SportsCenter theme, the music for two Super Bowls, and scores for award-winning documentaries by filmmaker Ken Burns, Colby has reached a broad audience.

But this might not have happened if it weren’t for some musician friends hanging out around his townhouse during his senior year at GW. READ FULL ARTICLE

Class Notes

Bill Brian, MA ’87, was named chair of law firm Kennedy Covington’s Land Use and Zoning practice. This section, which includes 23 attorneys, focuses on zoning, land use and municipal law, real estate litigation, and commercial real estate law.
Dana Tai Soon Burgess, MFA ’94, was recently awarded the highest dance honor in D.C., the Metro D.C. Dance Award. He received the award in the “best large venue production” category for his performance entitled “Images from the Embers,” which premiered at Lisner Auditorium last year. The performance has been touring the U.S., South America and Asia since it premiered. Burgess, who is also an assistant professor of dance at GW, is the director of D.C.’s premiere Asian American Dance Company.
