YOUNG ALUMNI NETWORK COMMITTEE MEETING – ALL ARE INVITED!
Are you interested in getting involved? Do you want to share some of your ideas for fun programs and events? The Young Alumni Network (YAN) offers programming to graduates from the past five years that is designed to fit in with your social, networking, and educational needs and interests.

YAN is entering its second year of programming, and we are looking for new members to serve on the YAN committee. If you are interested, please attend!

Currently, the Young Alumni Network serves alumni in the Washington, D.C., area, but we are planning to expand to New York this fall – keep an eye out in future issues of the Colonial Cable and the Regional Round Up for more news.

Join us for the latest installment of Politics and Port, featuring Debbie Fiddelke, MA '94. Politics and Port is a unique opportunity to exchange political views with other alumni in an intimate setting.

Debbie Fiddelke received her BA in journalism from the University of Nebraska in 1990 and her Masters of Political Management from GW's Graduate School of Political Management in 1994. Her career quickly took off as within three years she went from a legislative correspondent, to Press Secretary for congress representatives, to become Press Director to US Senator Chuck Hagel. By July 2001she became his senior policy advisor and communications director. In October 2002, she became the Associate Director for congressional affairs, advising the chairman on legislative issues while coordinating interagency legislative strategy. She currently serves as deputy assistant to the President for legislative affairs.

GW will provide port wine and light refreshments. This event is free, but please register so that we can get a head count.

COLONIALS ATHLETICS CLUB 9TH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT – SAVE THE DATE!
Colonials Athletics hosts its 9th annual golf tournament at Stonewall Golf Club, rated 4.5 stars and one of the best places to play by Golf Digest in 2007. The day includes lunch, a day of golf, dinner, an auction, and trophies and prizes.

Frank Goodyear is the assistant curator of photographs at the National Portrait Gallery. He is currently developing an exhibition on portraits of contemporary Hip Hop musicians by photographer David Scheinbaum. Goodyear is also an affiliated faculty member in the Department of American Studies at GW, teaching graduate classes in American Visual Studies and the History of Photography. He did his undergraduate work at Princeton University and received his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Texas.

Goodyear will lead the tour of the Portrait Gallery focusing on the highlights of the museum. The cost of this program is $15 and includes the private tour and reception.

Join Matt Moog, CCAS BA ‘92 as he discusses the entrepreneurial drive that ultimately led to the beginning of his own business, Viewpoints Network.

While an undergraduate at GW, Matt produced a direct mail coupon book called the College Consumer. This project led to a successful career in marketing and sales, with Microsoft hiring Matt immediately after graduation. Currently, Matt owns Viewpoints Network, an online service company he created that allows users to rate, review and recommend products, services, and other experiences based on their first hand use. Matt received his BA in 1992 from the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.

All alumni are invited to this free program. Although there is no cost to attend, please register your attendance in advance.

Retirement planning can be tricky – let Amit Shashidharan, GWSB ’01, and Aaron Brachman, GWSB ’02, guide you through the process. Shashidharan and Brachman, who each have over eight years of experience in retirement planning, will speak on this topic and are happy to answer your questions.

Tony Award-winning comedian Billy Crystal will headline Colonials Weekend 2007, and the GW Alumni Association has reserved a block of tickets for alumni.

HOW DO I BECOME A FOREIGN SERVICE OFFICER?
Special guest, Bill Warren, ESIA BA ’67, will share his past experiences as a Foreign Service Officer.

Bill Warren, retired Foreign Service Officer, will discuss his years traveling throughout the world for the U.S. State Department. Warren was American Consul in Adana, Turkey, served as Charge d’Affaires of the American Embassy in Solomon Islands and in Samoa. He also served in Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Australia. He received his BA from the Elliott School of International Affairs in 1967.

Hebert received her BA in political science from American University in 1999 and her MA in media and public affairs from The George Washington University in 2004. She currently serves as a vice president with Hart Research, conducting qualitative and quantitative research projects for nonprofit organizations, corporations, political candidates, media organizations, and educational institutions. Hebert will be joined by her husband, Mike Ward, Legislative Director to U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI).
