GRADUATE SCHOOL OF POLITICAL MANAGEMENT 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
It has been 20 years since the founding of the Graduate School of Political Management.  All members of the GSPM family are invited to join our anniversary celebration as we congratulate our 20th graduating class and their families. The two-day celebration features an array of exciting events and lectures culminating with the 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner featuring former Mexican President Vicente Fox.

July 18
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

"Difficult times lie ahead, Harry." This is the warning that meets our favorite wizard in training as he heads back for his fourth year at Hogwart’s School. Harry is mysteriously entered into the dangerous Tri-wizard Tournament even though he is underage. He must train for many challenging and the possible return of his nemesis, the evil Lord Voldemort.

July 25
Casino Royale (2006)
Rated PG-13, Runtime: 144 minutes
This Bond movie takes us back to the beginning. James has a freshly stamped 00 status and he is going to establish the reckless style that will make him famous. Bond’s mission is Le Chiffre, banker to the world’s terrorists. 007 needs to find all aces in a high stakes poker game with LeChiffre at the Casino Royale.

August 1
The Incredibles (2004)
Rated PG, Runtime: 115 minutes
From the wizards at Pixar comes this hilarious adventure of Bob Parr, formerly known as Mr. Incredible, who, along with his family had to be put into the witness protection program.  Leaving his life of crime fighting behind Bob is now a clock punching insurance adjuster trying to make a life in the ’burbs.  When a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island the whole family must jump back into action for one last mission.

August 8
Rocky (1974)
Rated PG, Runtime: 119 minutes
Rocky Balboa is a struggling boxer trying to make the big time. Working in a meat factory in Philadelphia for a pittance, he also earns extra cash as a debt collector. When heavyweight champion Apollo Creed visits Philadelphia, his managers want to set up an exhibition match between Creed and a struggling boxer, touting the fight as a chance for a "nobody" to become a "somebody". The match is supposed to be easily won by Creed, but someone forgot to tell Rocky, who sees this as his only shot at the big time. (IMDB.com)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)
Rated PG-13, Runtime: 151 minutes
Ahoy mates! Captain Jack is back and finds himself with a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones. If can’t find a way to fulfill his obligation then he will be doomed to eternal damnation and servitude in the afterlife. Meanwhile, Will and Elizabeth are planning a wedding but are forced to put that on hold to help Jack out of yet another predicament.

August 22
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Rated PG-13, Runtime: 158 minutes
In this third installment of the amazing Spider-Man trilogy, Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to Mary-Jane and his duties as a superhero. When his suit suddenly turns black and enhances his power, it brings out a vengeful side that he must struggle to control while battling two of the most feared villains yet, Sandman and The New Goblin.

Complimentary parking will be available in the Mount Vernon Campus Garage upon entering from Whitehaven Parkway.

In addition, The Vern Express, the free shuttle service connecting the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon Campuses, will offer departures from each campus every 30 minutes until 11:45pm – at the top of the hour and 30 minutes past the hour from 23rd and H Streets (Fulbright Hall) on the Foggy Bottom Campus and at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour from The Quad on the Mount Vernon Campus.

NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY–PRIVATE TOUR AND RECEPTION WITH GW ALUMNI–SOLD OUT!
Join fellow GW alumni for a private tour of the National Portrait Gallery led by curator and GW professor Frank Goodyear. Following the tour, gather at Poste Moderne Brasserie for a reception.

Frank Goodyear is the assistant curator of photographs at the National Portrait Gallery. He is currently developing an exhibition on portraits of contemporary Hip Hop musicians by photographer David Scheinbaum. Goodyear is also an affiliated faculty member in the Department of American Studies at GW, teaching graduate classes in American Visual Studies and the History of Photography. He did his undergraduate work at Princeton University and received his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Texas.

Goodyear will lead the tour of the Portrait Gallery focusing on the highlights of the museum. The cost of this program is $15 and includes the private tour and reception. PLEASE NOTE: The tour is SOLD OUT as of publication of this month's Colonial Cable, but click here to add yourself to the waiting list.

BILLY CRYSTAL AT COLONIALS WEEKEND 2007!
Tony Award-winning comedian Billy Crystal will headline Colonials Weekend 2007, and the GW Alumni Association has reserved a block of tickets for alumni.

Spend the evening with Bill Warren, retired Foreign Service Officer as he discusses his years traveling throughout the world for the U.S. State Department.

Warren was American Consul in Adana, Turkey, served as Charge d’Affaires of the American Embassy in Solomon Islands and in Samoa. He also served in Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Australia. He received his BA from the Elliott School of International Affairs in 1967.

POLITICS AND PORT WITH MAEVE HEBERT, MA ’04
Join us for the latest installment of Politics and Port, featuring Maeve Hebert, MA ’04. Politics and Port is a unique opportunity to exchange political views with other alumni in an intimate setting.

Hebert received her BA in political science from American University in 1999 and her MA in media and public affairs from The George Washington University in 2004. She currently serves as a vice president with Hart Research, conducting qualitative and quantitative research projects for nonprofit organizations, corporations, political candidates, media organizations, and educational institutions.

Some of her clients include the Library of Congress, Rolling Stone Magazine, and the Department of Defense, as well as several congressional and municipal political candidates. She has authored a column in Public Perspectives magazine, and an article comparing American and Arab media coverage of the Iraq war in the Harvard Journal of Press and Politics. She also has appeared on CSPAN’s Washington Journal discussing attitudes among America’s high school students.

Hebert will be joined by her husband, Mike Ward, Legislative Director to U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI). Ward serves as the principal legislative advisor for an active member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, with emphasis on telecommunications, environmental, energy, technology, automotive safety, consumer protection and trade legislation.
