Hello Fellow Colonials —

The warmth of spring is bringing renewed activity to GW’s campuses. Students are gathering outside to study and socialize, intramural sports are in full swing, and faculty are taking advantage of the pleasant weather by holding classes on the lawn in Kogan Plaza.

Meanwhile, GW is moving toward great things. In March, the D.C. Zoning Commission approved the University’s applications for its 20-year Foggy Bottom Campus Plan. READ FULL ARTICLE

Alumni Profiles

Amy Alder, MA '05

Amy Alder, MA ’05, has been named the new executive director for the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce in Michigan. Previously, she worked in event coordination and promotions, assuming various leadership roles.

Amy is excited by Oxford’s robust growth, from the renovation of historic buildings to new construction, according to the Oxford Leader, which ran a profile of Amy in February. Amy, who received a master’s degree in tourism and event management from GW two years ago, grew up in Oxford and is delighted to be working in the community.

Daniel J. Kaniewski, BS ’00, was recently appointed by President Bush as special assistant to the president for Homeland Security and senior director for Response Policy. Kaniewski previously served as director, Response and Recovery Policy on the Homeland Security Council staff at the White House.

Sloane Levy, JD ’89, has been named senior vice president and general counsel of Norwalk-based Webloyalty, a leading provider of technology-based, online marketing services. Levy will serve as a member of the company’s leadership team and be responsible for the in-house legal and compliance department.

Alumnus Andy Luhtanen, BA ’55, and friend, Terry Schultze, arrived at Boardwalk Hall early to ensure great seats for the Atlantic-10 Tournament semi-finals. The GW men’s basketball team won the championship game, and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row.
