ENGINEER ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR BOARD MEMBERSHIP

The nominating committee of the Engineer Alumni Association (EAA) is now accepting applications for membership on the EAA Board. There are currently five vacancies to fill for the 2006-2007 board. All School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) alumni are eligible, but mid-career professionals and graduate alumni are especially encouraged to apply. Members are expected to attend meetings of the board, held every other month, as well as serve on one or more of the EAA committees, which normally meet on the off months of the board meetings.

Some EAA activities that board members are involved in are:
  • Providing judges at several D.C. area regional science fairs and inviting the winners to an on-campus reception to recognize them;
  • Representing the interests of SEAS alumni by providing representatives to the University-wide GW Alumni Association (GWAA);
  • Hosting a resume-critiquing event for current students and alumni;
  • Calling admitted students to encourage them to come to SEAS;
  • Holding social events, including happy hours for young alumni and an annual basketball tailgater;
  • Recognizing alumni for both service and achievement through the presentation of awards;
  • Encouraging and recruiting engineering alumni to sign up for the new GWAA mentoring program or to host a dinner for students.
Interested alumni are requested to send an e-mail to seasalum@gwu.edu with "EAA Board Membership" in the subject line. Please include the following information:

The George Washington University Engineer Alumni Association (EAA) is looking for School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) alumni to volunteer as judges for science fairs in the Washington, D.C., region. The purpose of EAA involvement in local science fairs is to encourage youth to consider the science and engineering professions, increase awareness of opportunities in these fields, and to promote GW and SEAS.

The EAA will participate in the following regional science fairs in 2006:
  • Montgomery County – March 11
  • Northern Virginia Science and Engineering Fair (Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church) – March 11
  • District of Columbia – March 18
  • Fairfax County – March 18
  • Prince William-Manassas Regional Science Fair – March 18
  • Prince George – April 1
All science fair winners and their parents, as well as the judges, will be invited to a dean’s reception in April. Students and parents will have the opportunity to visit SEAS and meet Dean Timothy Tong, members of the faculty, current students, and alumni.

To volunteer as a science fair judge, please send an e-mail to seasalum@gwu.edu. Please indicate "Science Fair Judging" in the subject line. Alternatively, you may call the SEAS Advancement Office at 202-994-9866.
