Sixty years ago, Nicholas Lakas, AA ’43, BA ’46, graduated from GW. On February 15, 2006, during the first half of the GW men’s basketball game against the University of Massachusetts, the Office of Alumni Programs celebrated this special time. At the basketball game Scott Mory, executive director of alumni programs, presented Lakas with a megaphone decorated with GW colors – as a reminder of his college days on the cheerleading team – to commemorate this memorable occasion.


Lakas has remained a loyal supporter of GW for many years. While here, he was active on the men’s cheerleading team, a time he recalls with fondness, and was instrumental in getting women involved with the team.
