The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
(AIAA) named Thomas Horvath, MS ’87, Engineer of the Year for 2006.
Horvath, a 19-year veteran of the NASA Langley Research Center, was honored
for his exemplary contributions to the understanding of Space Shuttle
orbiter aerothermodynamic phenomena. Horvath’s findings were critical
to the Columbia accident investigation and to the safe entry
of Discovery on the Return-to-Flight mission. “I am very
humbled to have received this award,” said Horvath, who will be
honored on June 6, during the 36th AIAA Thermophysics and Heat Transfer
Conference in San Francisco.
