GW STUDENTS HELP IN TIMES OF DISASTER

GW students Billy Fritz and Marc Berenson, the first two students to be involved for four undergraduate years with EMeRG, the Emergency Medical Response Group, traveled to Louisiana to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Fritz left for New Orleans with the group “Operation Lifeline,” made up of 200 doctors, firefighters, psychologists, and other volunteers, led by the Maryland Emergency Management Agency. The group led a convoy of ambulances, fire engines, and a fuel tanker during the 34-hour trip. Berenson, a paramedic at EMeRG, traveled to New Orleans with a 19-member team from the GW Medical Center. This is the first time GW students from EMeRG have helped during a national natural disaster.
