GW ALUMNI FLAG FOOTBALL

It’s that time of year again. Break out the cleats, flags, and pigskin – it’s football season! Join your fellow GW alumni in their third season of flag football. The season starts in late September, but the team is forming now. The first practice will be held September 10th or 11th on the Ellipse. NEW EXHIBIT AT BRADY ART GALLERY

The Luther W. Brady Art Gallery is proud to announce its first exhibition this fall, John Walker: Works on Paper 1990 – 2004. This exhibition is organized by The Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine, and is free to the public.

MOUNT VERNON WEEKLY DANCE WORKOUT CLASS

GW alumni are invited to get in shape through the Kukuwa dance workout, a high-energy dance class with African, Caribbean, and Latin influences offered weekly on GW’s Mount Vernon Campus. Classes are free to all GW students, faculty, and staff with a valid GWorld card. The cost is $5 per class or $40 for all 10 sessions for alumni and the general public.

GW ALUMNI WASHINGTON AREA HAPPY HOUR

Join fellow Colonials for an end-of-summer happy hour at the chic Eleventh Street Lounge. The first 40 alumni to arrive will receive a free drink, compliments of the GW Alumni Association. Happy hour specials run until 8 p.m. and include half-priced martinis, half-priced Belgian beers, and $4 house wines.

ENTREPRENEURS ROUNTABLE DISCUSSION

The GW Alumni Association is excited to announce the creation of the GW Entrepreneurs Roundtable, an interdisciplinary effort to bring faculty, students, alumni, and University administration together to advance the mission of entrepreneurship. The Roundtable seeks alumni, including entrepreneurs, investors, engineers, attorneys, accountants, and others who can help foster entrepreneurship among GW graduates.

Our first event is a brown bag discussion entitled Commercializing University Research and Development, featuring faculty from the School of Engineering and Applied Science. This event brings together faculty, students, and alumni to discuss technology transfer and the creation of technology start-ups.

9/11 QUILT ON DISPLAY AT GW

The United in Memory 9/11 Victims Memorial Quilt, a 16,000 square-foot quilt memorializing the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks, will be on public display at GW. The quilt includes more than 3,000 panels with personalized photos, love letters, patches, and drawings honoring individual victims.

ANNUAL FRIENDS BLOCK PARTY IN FOGGY BOTTOM

GW and the FRIENDS Group invite you to attend this year’s block party. Each year GW works with the FRIENDS Group to host a large community celebration in the Foggy Bottom/West End neighborhood. This year’s block party will feature over 65 booths highlighting local groups, businesses, and organizations. The day will be filled with live music, children’s activities, face painting, a cooking demonstration, and more than 10 local restaurants serving their culinary delights.
