MARSHALL
CARTER: ON THE CUTTING EDGE
As a
former student of technology and public policy, a decorated Vietnam
veteran, a Marine Corps officer, and a leader in the banking industry,
Marshall Carter was a logical choice for the position of chairman
of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). READ

Mary
Jo Jacobi-Jephson, MBA ’76, was appointed by Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as a Civil Service Commissioner of Great
Britain. Jacobi-Jephson was married in December 2004 to Patrick
Jephson, the former private secretary to the late Princess Diana.
Susan Lippert, MBA ’89, PhD ’01, professor
of information systems at Drexel University, was interviewed by
CN8 local television news in Philadelphia on the current state of
information systems technology. Lippert, an accomplished speaker,
presents her research at professional conferences around the world,
including the International Information Resource Management Association
conference held in 2005 in San Diego, California.
Adam Wolfson, MBA ’04, is the founder and
president of RollAds, a mobile advertising company based in Metropolitan
Detroit, which provides companies with a customized marketing plan
to target audiences on the nation’s heaviest traffic highways.

ALUMNUS PERISHES IN IRAQ
We
are grieved to report that Major Ricardo Crocker, BA ’89,
was killed while serving his second tour of active duty in Iraq.
Crocker died in an attack on Al-Anbar, Iraq’s largest province,
where the Sunni Triangle is located. Crocker completed the Naval
Reserve Officer Training Corps while at GW. A former writer for
the GW Hatchet, he served 16 years in the Marines and was an officer
in the Santa Monica Police Department.
Attention
alumni…we wish to honor our alumni serving in Middle Eastern
military zones.

of any GW alumni who are currently serving, have already served,
are working as contractors, or have lost their lives in Iraq or

ANNOUNCES 2005 ALUMNI SERVICE AWARDS
Every year the George Washington Alumni Association (GWAA) has the
distinct privilege of recognizing and celebrating our alumni with
the Alumni Service Award (ASA). This award recognizes notable alumni
who are committed to giving back to their communities locally and
globally. The achievements of our award recipients reinforce the
stellar education they received at GW. The Alumni Service Award
ceremony was held on Wednesday, June 8, in the Elliott School of
International Affairs immediately following the GWAA annual meeting.
Arthur Mintz, BBA ’66, Bruce J. Ammerman, MD ’72,
Jeffrey S. Akman, MD ’81,
and Gary Granoff, BBA ’70, JD ’73 receive Alumni Service
Awards.

LAW SCHOOL NAMES NEW DEAN
GW President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg announced the appointment
of Fredrick M. Lawrence, Boston University professor of law, as
the new dean of the GW Law School. Lawrence, who will assume his
post August 1, succeeds Interim Dean Roger Trangsrud. READ

GW’S ELLIOTT SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
NAMES NEW DEAN
Michael E. Brown, director of the Center for Peace and Security
Studies at Georgetown University, will become dean of the Elliott
School of International Affairs on August 1. He succeeds Dean Harry
Harding, who has led the Elliott School for the last decade. READ

SAYING GOODBYE TO CROSSFIRE
After 23 years on the air, one of cable television’s longest
running programs ran its final broadcast on June 3. For the past
three years GW has been the home of Crossfire, filming
over 730 shows in front of a live studio audience from the Jack
Morton Auditorium in the School of Media and Public Affairs. GW
students, faculty, and staff have come to think of the show as a
part of campus and will miss the daily political debate. James Carville,
Robert Novak, and Paul Begala hosted the final show with special

GW SCHOOL OF BUSINESS NAMED TOP GLOBAL CENTER OF RESEARCH
The George Washington University School of Business was named one
of the top 50 global centers of research for management of technology
by the International Association for Management of Technology. In
May, GW was recognized at the organization’s 14th annual International
Conference on Management of Technology in Vienna, Austria. READ

PLAY BALL – MAJOR LEAGUE STYLE
Ryan Roberson, a senior at GW and a former GW baseball player, was
selected to play for the Detroit Tigers in the 30th round of the
2005 Major League Baseball Draft. The first baseman finished his
career at GW leading the Atlantic 10 Conference batting average
(.423), slugging percentage (.753), on base percentage (.487), and
in base hits (82). Roberson was named First Team All-Conference
at the end of the regular season and was an All-Tournament Team
selection following the A-10 Conference Tournament. For more information
