Greetings fellow alumni,
For over a decade, graduating seniors have raised money for a Senior
Class Gift, which is left to the University as a token of appreciation
for their undergraduate experience, and to leave a legacy on campus.
Landmarks such as the phone booth at the intersection of G and 22nd
streets and the mosaic featured prominently in the Marvin Center
lobby are the result of senior classes’ energy and financial
support. READ

GW BASKETBALL IS TOP-NOTCH!
For the first time ever in Atlantic-10 Conference history, the GW
men’s Colonials won the A-10 title. With their victory over
Saint Joseph’s, 76-67, the Colonials secured their seat at
the NCAA Tournament. The Colonials made a good showing against Georgia
Tech at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tenn. Forward
Pops Mensah-Bonsu started the game strong with two dynamic dunks,
and the Colonials kept up with the Yellow Jackets through half time,
but ultimately the victory belonged to Georgia Tech, 80-68. The
NCAA first-round appearance was the first for the Colonials since
1999 and marked the eighth time GW has been invited to the tournament.
GW is one of only four private universities to have their men and
women’s teams in the NCAA Tournament this year. The women’s
basketball team was victorious against Mississippi in the opening
round of the 2005 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship at
the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. In second-round play
on March 22, the team went on to play first seeded North Carolina
and lost 71-47.

More than one hundred alumni and friends gathered on March 23rd

or more to GW. President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg warmly thanked
the guests, noting the significant role that alumni support plays
in the future of all institutions of higher education. READ
