A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI PROGRAMS

Greetings fellow alumni—

Basketball season is underway, and both the men’s and the women’s teams look great! The men’s team is playing a number of high-level games this year, with 12 of them televised, and plenty of positive publicity as the season gets started. Always strong, the women’s team is a favorite to win the Atlantic 10 and earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time in the program's history. READ FULL ARTICLE

GW & "U"

Commencement does not have to mean an end to the rewards of participating in campus organizations and activities. If you enjoy playing intramural sports, for example, you may now play with one of the George Washington Alumni Association (GWAA) sports leagues. If your passion is theatre, join fellow alumni for one of our theatre events. There are numerous other opportunities through the GWAA to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. One of these is the GWAA Programs Committee, which is open to all alumni. READ FULL ARTICLE

GW ALUMNUS APPOINTED SENATE MINORITY LEADER
With GW located so near the heart of the U.S. government and national politics, it is not surprising that numerous GW alumni are actively engaged in political discourse and that many GW undergraduates aspire to political posts. Enter Harry M. Reid, a GW Law School graduate and senator from Nevada. Reid was recently named Senate Minority Leader. His small-town upbringing, charming demeanor, and national political stature have earned Reid the respect of his colleagues. READ FULL ARTICLE

OTHER ALUMNI HEADLINES…
Ruth Glick, CCAS BA ’64, will have her 100th book, Crimson Moon, published in January 2005. Glick writes under the pseudonym Rebecca York, and is the author of the popular Moon series. Both a USA Today and a New York Times best selling author, Glick will be a part of GW’s upcoming Alumni Authors Lecture Series; scroll down to D.C. Happenings for more information.

Dan Glickman, Law School JD ’69, has been appointed president and chief executive of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Glickman has had an extensive political career, and will use his ties to the government to assist with his duties at the MPAA. Glickman hails from Wichita, Kansas, and is thrilled with his new post.

Representative Steve Israel, CCAS BA ’81 has begun his third term as a U.S. Congressman, representing New York’s 2nd Congressional District in the House. Israel, a Democrat, has long aspired to his current post. In a recent interview with the GW Hatchet, he described the political atmosphere at GW as formative to his dreams of becoming a Congressman.

Brigadier General John C. Reppert, ESIA PhD ’82, was awarded the prestigious Oxford Cup, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity’s top award, in November. AND IN NEWS OF THE WEIRD…
Richard Clay Travis, CCAS BA ’01, has begun a remarkable crusade. Employed as a lawyer in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Travis is outraged that the NFL games are not broadcast there. To protest DirecTV, which holds a monopoly on the Sunday Ticket package, he has vowed to eat nothing but pudding until something changes. To date, Travis has consumed 361.3 total puddings!
