COLONIALS
WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS
Food, Music and Comedy
The celebration starts on Friday night at the Kick-off Party at
Alumni House, from 7:30 p.m.– 10:00 p.m., with great food
and good company. Stop by on your way to see Patti LaBelle in the
Smith Center for what is sure to be a spectacular rhythm and blues
show. On Saturday night, catch Dana Carvey performing his hysterical
stand-up at the Smith Center.
Tickets for Patti LaBelle on Friday may be purchased at https://gwired.gwu.edu/tickets/,
or by calling 202-994-7411. Dana Carvey is sold out.
Colonials Village
Colonials Village, a street festival on Kogan Plaza, is the center
of CW activity on Saturday afternoon. The Village features poetry,
theatre, and live student music. Sample Bavarian, Italian, American,
and Mediterranean fare. Election fever strikes the Village when
the GW College Democrats and Republicans match wits in an old-fashioned
soapbox debate. For nostalgia buffs, Gelman Library hosts an archival
exhibit with images of GW through the decades, old yearbooks, and
historic copies of the Hatchet, among other memorabilia. DON’T
MISS IT!
Lecture Series
One of the most popular events from years past is the Colonial Lecture
Series. This year’s series features discussions on politics,
advances in biomedical science, the relationship between aging and
creativity, and other thought-provoking topics. All lectures take
place on Saturday afternoon between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the
Media & Public Affairs building in rooms 309, 310, and B07.
The lectures are free. Read
