A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI PROGRAMS

Greetings fellow alumni!

One of the most common questions I have heard from alumni is about how to get involved in the University. We could not run all of our programs without the support and involvement of alumni volunteers. This month's Colonial Cable has information on several different ways you can get involved, and we invite you to do just that. Read More

The George Washington Alumni Association is seeking GW alumni to serve as members of the Association’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee during the 2004-2005 Academic Year. All GW alumni are granted lifetime membership in the GWAA and are eligible to serve in leadership positions. The Nominating Committee and President-Elect encourage alumni interested in any of the positions to be filled for the upcoming year to identify themselves by completing the applicaiton form. The deadline for applications is April 30, 2004. For more information, or to download an application form, please visit the GW Alumni Web site at: http://www.gwu.edu/alumni/benefits/gwaamember.html

ALUMNI EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

GW is committed to providing lifelong learning opportunities for alumni. Through the Alumni Course Audit Program, you may take a class, such as jewelry making for enjoyment or a course in microeconomics to enhance professional skills. Various symposia, lectures and conferences are offered to give alumni a snapshot of a certain subject area, which can satisfy a curiosity or be the beginning of an academic pursuit. A renowned Roosevelt expert is joining us on a tour of the historic homes of Eleanor and Franklin in June. Faculty members and alumni will take part in discussion panels prior to the party conventions in July and August. Colonial College, the academic portion of our reunion weekend, will feature some of GW’s faculty stars. We are also reviving our Alumni Travel Program with exciting trips to exotic and interesting destinations around the world.

CALL FOR COLONIALS WEEKEND VOLUNTEERS

Colonials Weekend 2004 is around the corner! We still need volunteers to help plan the 5th, 10th, 25th and 50th Reunions. If you are a member of the Class of 1999, 1994, 1979 or 1954 and would like to be involved in planning special reunion events for your class, please contact Joe Bondi, Director of Alumni Constituency Programs, at (202) 994-9524 or by e-mail at reunions@gwu.edu. For more information about Colonials Weekend 2004, please visit the GW Alumni web site at www.alumni.gwu.edu/cw.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY REVIEW COMMITTEE

GW’s Office of Research and Graduate Studies is constituting an Intellectual Property Review Committee to meet at least quarterly to evaluate inventions and other discoveries disclosed to the University by GW faculty and students and to make recommendations about what the University should do with these intellectual properties The goal being to strengthen GW's technology transfer capabilities and see more GW scientific discoveries translated into commercial products. The focus initially will be on science and engineering technologies and on outreach and evaluation efforts being conducted for us by Deloitte & Touche. CEOs, patent attorneys and other alumni with relevant technical, legal, or business expertise who are interested in sharing their expertise on a pro bono basis are asked to send a resume to Carol Sigelman, Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, at resgrad@gwu.edu.
