GW MAKES NATIONAL RANKINGS
GW recently ranked 51st among the top 123 colleges and universities listed by number in the latest "America's Best Colleges" issue of US News & World Report, a guide for college-bound students. In all, 248 national universities responded to the magazine's annual survey. Among the gains for GW in the latest survey compared with last year's data were an increase in the average SAT scores from 1150-1330 to 1170-1360 for incoming freshmen and a rise from 46 percent to 61 percent in the number of freshmen who are in the top 10 percent of their high school class. GW also became more selective in the percentage of applicants it accepts-from 49 percent to 40 percent.

GW also recently made the Top 10 in three categories of the 2003 edition of the Princeton Review's Best 351 College Rankings. GW is among the top 3 of "Most Politically Active" university's in America, placing ahead of schools such as Georgetown and University of California-Berkeley.

GW's other rankings included a No. 10 for Social/Great College Towns, and a No. 10 for Quality of Life/Dorms Like Palaces

TOWNHOUSE ROW SET TO OPEN SEPTEMBER 4
University officials are preparing to cut the ribbon on the newest option in GW’s slate of on-campus housing — Townhouse Row — Sept. 4. The new facility will house eight of the University's Greek organizations.

NATIONAL CRASH ANALYSIS CENTER TO OFFER FREE CERTIFIED CHILD CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECKS
Free certified child car seat safety checks are being provided by appointment on GW’s Virginia Campus. The service is administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Crash Analysis Center (NCAC). Appointments must be made at least one day prior to the child safety seat check. Interested parties should contact Nick Tamborra at the NCAC at (703) 726-3551. The child safety seat checks will be conducted free of charge on GW’s Virginia Campus at 44985 Knoll Square in Ashburn (the old PSI Net building at University Center off of Rt. 7, one mile west of Rt. 28).

WHOOPI GOLDBERG TO PERFORM DURING COLONIALS WEEKEND 2003
Colonials Weekend, October 17-19, 2003, will feature reunions, faculty lectures, and much more! This year's entertainment includes Whoopi Goldberg. The performance will be held on Friday, October 17, at 9:30 p.m. in the Smith Center. There is only one show and tickets are selling quickly. Tickets ($36 adult, $26 student/youth) are being sold on a first come, first served basis and are general admission. ANNOUNCING THE FALL 2003 ALUMNI COURSE AUDIT PROGRAM
Register now -- Classes start on Tuesday, September 2.

The Office of Alumni Programs is pleased to announce another semester of the Alumni Course Audit Program! This program, offered through the cooperation of many of GW's academic departments, provides alumni with the opportunity to attend many University courses for a modest registration fee, currently $100 per course ($50 for alumni over age 60).

Fall 2003 Alumni Course Audit Program guidelines, registration and payment information, departmental listings and a printable registration form are all available on the GW Alumni web site at www.gwu.edu/alumni/benefits. Please note that courses taken through the Alumni Course Audit Program are on a not-for-credit basis and do not appear on GW transcripts.

Be sure to register for the fall semester by September 17, 2003 to avoid the late registration fee. GWORKS - GW'S NEW ONLINE JOB AND INTERNSHIP LISTING SERVICE
The GW Career Center is proud to introduce GWork, the University's new online job and internship listing service for students--and alumni. The GWork system features:

* Full-time career positions and regular part-time, federal work-study and seasonal jobs, as well as career-related internships and cooperative education positions. Positions are posted by employers interested in exclusively recruiting GW students and alumni.

* Ability to apply for a job or register for an on-campus interview online.

* Job-search tracking system. Allows you to keep track of the jobs for which you've applied as well as on-campus interviews for which you've signed up.

* Ability to store and send your resume and other documents to employers online.

* Job Search Agents. Set up a profile to receive e-mail notifications of positions that fit your search criteria.
