GW GRADUATES CLASS OF 2003
GW’s commencement ceremony last month lauded the accomplishments of the Class of 2003, distinguished alumni, honored guests, faculty members, and the spirits of knowledge and justice. Virginia Governor Mark Warner, a 1977 GW graduate, delivered the keynote address, marked with personal touches, to the graduates and their families.

UNDERGRADUATES PRESENT RESEARCH PROJECTS
The George Gamow Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program held its first Research Symposium in Gelman Library, giving student scholars five minutes to present their original research findings and answer questions from the University community.

FOUR ALUMNI EARN DISTINGUISHED HONORS AT COMMENCEMENT
Four alumni received the 2003 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award during GW's Commencement weekend activities last month. This year's honorees were: Penelope Starratt Duffy (CCAS, MA '74), a leading researcher at the Mayo Clinic in neurological disorders of communication and a pioneer in recognizing and describing the effects of right hemisphere damage on cognitive processing and communication skills; Mark V. Hughes (CCAS, BS '69; SEAS, MS '77), a sector vice president and deputy manager for Science Applications International (SAIC), a member of the boards of directors of Telcorida and AMSEC (a SAIC joint venture) and a member of the GW Board of Trustees; Marisa Rose Lino (ESIA, MA '72), a senior negotiator for the U.S. State Department's Political Military Affairs Bureau and former U.S. Ambassador to Albania; and Charles K. Watt (SEAS, MS '73, D.Sc. '86), founder of Scientific Research Corporation, an electronic engineering company, and an advisory board member at numerous universities, including GW.

GWAA ANNUAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 17
All GW alumni are invited to attend the annual meeting of The George Washington Alumni Association on Tuesday, June 17, at 6:45 p.m. in Post Hall on GW's Mount Vernon Campus (2100 Foxhall Road, NW). The meeting will be proceeded by a barbecue at 6:00 p.m. This event is a wonderful way to meet the GWAA leaders and vote for the Association's 2003-2004 officers. GW YOUNG ALUMNI HAPPY HOUR ON JUNE 11
The GW Young Alumni Council is hosting a happy hour on Wednesday, June 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Gua-Rapo at 2039 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington. The Gua-Rapo owners are the same creative minds behind Ozio, Bambule, Chi-Cha, and Gazuza. Gua-Rapo is a lounge serving a variety of Latin drinks (Mojitos, Sangrias, and more) as well as tasty empanadas, ceviches, and tapas. The GW Young Alumni Council has reserved the upstairs lounge and the first drink for GW alumni and their guests is free! Take Metro's Orange line to Courthouse and exit to the left after coming up the escalators.

BEACH BOYS TO HEADLINE COLONIALS WEEKEND 2003
Colonials Weekend, October 19-17, 2003, will feature reunions, family activities, and much more! This year's headline entertainment is the Beach Boys. The concert will be held on Saturday, October 18, at 8:00 p.m. in the Smith Center. There is only one show and tickets are very limited. Tickets ($30 adult, $20 student) are being sold on a first come, first served basis and are general admission. For more information and to purchase tickets, please go to gwired.gwu.edu/tickets. NEW ALUMNI CLUB DEBUTS IN TURKEY
The newly formed GW Alumni Club of Istanbul, Turkey, is holding a kick-off reception on Monday, June 16 at the Koc Museum in Istanbul. It will feature a talk by Mustafa Koc (SBPM BBA '84). For more information, please contact Selin Habbab at selin@imajonline.com.
