NEW DEAN NAMED FOR COLUMBIAN COLLEGE
William Frawley, a former academic administrator for the University of Delaware, became Dean of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences on July 1st. Frawley replaced Jean Folkerts, director of the School of Media and Public Affairs, who served as interim dean this year.

SBPM RECEIVES $5 MILLION GIFT FROM ALUMNUS
Henry "Ric" Duques and his wife, Dawn, recently donated $5 million to the School of Business and Public Management to support the school's new building campaign. Duques is a two-time graduate of SBPM, and he currently serves on the GW Board of Trustees. The new building, to be named "Duques Hall," is scheduled to begin construction this fall.

REPORT SHOWS GW'S IMPACT ON LOCAL COMMUNITY
A recent report demonstrates GW's impact on its surrounding neighborhood and the Washington, DC community. The University is the largest employer in the District of Columbia, and recently launched a new program to encourage employees to purchase homes in DC.

BROWN UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT GIVES 2002 COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS
Brown University President Ruth Simmons presented the keynote address at Commencement on the Ellipse this year. Simmons encouraged graduates to embrace diversity and challenge beliefs.

GW ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING
The George Washington Alumni Association held its annual meeting on June 5th at Alumni House. Members selected new officers for the 2002-03 academic year and gave special honors to past association presidents and volunteers.

BASEBALL TEAM TIES RECORD FOR SEASON WINS
The GW Men's Baseball team tied the school record for most wins in a season this year. The Colonials captured the Atlantic-10 championship, and finished in the sub-regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
